Typhoon "Bising" (international name "Surigae") has maintained its strength while over the Philippine Sea east of northern Aurora on Tuesday evening, April 20.
In the severe weather bulletin issued at 11 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Bising maintained its maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 215 kph.
The typhoon has started to pick up pace as it moved 15 kph northward.
PAGASA located the center of the eye of Bising at 395 kilometers (km) east of Casiguran, Aurora around 10 p.m.
Three areas remain under Signal No. 2
The eastern portion of Cagayan, eastern portion of Isabela, and northern portion of Isabela were still under Signal No. 2, as of 11 p.m.
Meanwhile, Signal No. 1 remain hoisted over Batanes, rest of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, rest of Isabela, Quirino, Apayao, Kalinga, eastern portion of Mountain Province, eastern portion of Ifugao, northeastern portion of Nueva Vizcaya, central portion of Aurora, southeastern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, northern portion of Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.
"Tropical cyclone winds of at least strong breeze to near gale in strength extend outward up to 440 km from the center of the typhoon. (Likewise) destructive typhoon-force winds extend outward up to 90 km from the center of the typhoon," PAGASA said.
In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said the northeasterly wind flow enhanced by the typhoon will also bring strong breeze to near-gale conditions with higher gusts over the coastal and mountainous areas of Northern Luzon that are not under any tropical cyclone wind signal.
Bising may also trigger rough to high seas over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon with wave heights up to 3.0-9.0 meters (m).
Rough to very rough seas will likewise prevail over the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Samar, eastern seaboard of Eastern Samar (2.5-5.0 m), and western seaboards of Northern Luzon (2.5-4.5 m).
"Sea travel is risky for all types of seacrafts over these waters," PAGASA said.
Bising's projected track and intensity
Typhoon Bising is expected to continue to move generally north or north-northwest until Wednesday evening, April 21 to Thursday morning, April 22, when the typhoon will be nearest the landmass of northern Luzon, PAGASA said.
Afterward, the typhoon will begin to move northeast away from the Luzon landmass throughout Thursday and east-northeastward by Friday, April 23.
Bising is projected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Sunday, April 25.
PAGASA said Bising will maintain its current intensity in the next 12 hours before gradually weakening throughout the forecast period.
Bising will likely be at 335 km east of Aparri, Cagayan by Wednesday evening; 350 km east of Basco, Batanes by Thursday evening; 785 km east-northeast of Basco by Friday evening; 1,290 km east of extreme northern Luzon by Saturday evening; and 1,980 km east of extreme northern Luzon or outside the PAR by Sunday evening.
