Citing the latest Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index report, the DICT said the country registered a 20.25 percent increase in fixed broadband download speed, from the 38.46 megabits per second (Mbps) in February to 46.25 Mbps in March.

The DICT said the increase in the fixed broadband average download speed in March was “the highest jump” since 2016.

“It represents a 484.70 percent increase compared to the country’s download speed of 7.91 Mbps back in July 2016,” the department said in a statement.

As for the mobile network average download speed, a “slight dip” was recorded from the 26.24 Mbps in February to 25.43 Mbps in March.

But it noted that there is still a significant increase of 241.80 percent from the download speed of 7.44 Mbps back in July 2016.

Based on Ookla’s latest report, the Philippines moved up by 11 places to rank 81 in fixed broadband internet speed in March, with a download speed of 46.25 Mbps and an upload speed of 45.13 Mbps.

However, the country went down by three places to rank 86 for mobile internet speed in the same month, with a download speed of 25.43 Mbps and an upload speed of 6.91 Mbps.

“The Department of Information and Communications Technology shall continue to support and monitor the performance of telecommunications companies and internet service providers’ to ensure their intensified efforts to improve Internet service performance this year,” Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II said.
