PCG seizes P2.8M worth of smuggled cigarettes in Zamboanga Sibugay


The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) seized some P2.8 million worth of smuggled cigarettes when its personnel intercepted a watercraft in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

In a statement, the PCG said the operation was conducted after receiving intelligence report that a “jungkong” type of watercraft loaded with smuggled cigarettes departed Zamboanga City and was heading to Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The watercraft was then intercepted and PCG personnel seized more or less 80 boxes of smuggled cigarettes. It was then towed to the premises of the Coast Guard Station Zamboanga Sibugay for temporary custody.

The confiscated illegal goods were turned over to the Bureau of Customs (BOC) located at the Port of Zamboanga.
