5 passengers rescued in Davao Oriental

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued five passengers from a capsized motorbanca off the waters of Mati City in Davao Oriental.

In an incident report, the PCG said the motorbanca departed from Barangay Macabol, Mati City and was heading to the Vanishing Island in Davao del Norte when the sea mishap occurred.

While underway, authorities said the motorbanca encountered huge waves, which caused damage to the boat. It eventually capsized.

The Coast Guard  immediately deployed a search and rescue team after receiving a distress call from one of the passengers.

The Mati City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) personnel provided the rescued passengers medical assistance upon their arrival at the Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental.

There were no passengers injured during the incident, the PCG noted.
