5.4-magnitude quake strikes off Sarangani


The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded early Saturday, April 17, a moderately strong 5.4-magnitude earthquake off Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

The earthquake hit offshore at 4:55 a.m. 

Phivolcs traced its epicenter at 261 kilometers southeast of Sarangani, but no earthquake intensity was reported.

The quake was tectonic in origin, which means the tremor was caused by the movement of an active fault in the area.

Moreover, it was shallow at a depth of 39 kilometers.

Phivolcs does not expect damage to property, however aftershocks are likely to occur.
