TACLOBAN CITY – Police arrested a barangay chairman and his companion for allegedly engaging in an illegal numbers game in Hernani, Eastern Samar Thursday.
Police identified the suspects as Anaclito Tuñacao, barangay chairman and resident of Barangay 01 Poblacion, and Eric de Leon, 42, of Barangay Batang, Hernani.
Tunacao acted as game coordinator for an illegal numbers game known as “swertres” while De Leon served as game collector-runner, according to police.
Members of the Regional Special Operations Group, Eastern Samar Provincial Intelligence Unit, and the local police launched an entrapment operation. They nabbed the suspects while accepting bets for the game.
The arresting team recovered from the suspects assorted illegal gambling paraphernalia, marked money, bet money, and other pieces of evidence.
The suspects and seized items were brought to the Hernani Municipal Police Station for documentation and safekeeping prior to the filing of appropriate charges in court.
