Two volunteer nurses – Princess Diane Antolihao and Ana Nicole Delacruz – flew to Manila Friday and said the opportunity to serve their countrymen who are in dire need of help was just too difficult to pass up notwithstanding the risks it entail.

Antolihao, of Compostela, Cebu, said she was previously deployed to Bacolod City and never hesitated to agree when she was told that she will be sent to NCR.

“I find it overwhelming to be able to help my fellow countrymen. That’s the reason why I volunteered again,” Antolihao said.

Delacruz, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Bohol, said it was the perfect time to serve her countrymen after working abroad for three years.

“I was an OFW for three years and now that I was able to return home, I decided to volunteer as a COVID nurse so I could serve our country,” Delacruz said.

Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Secretary Michael Lloyd Dino led the ceremonial send-off of the 30 nurses who were the second batch of medical nurses from Central Visayas sent to the NCR.

Of the 30 nurses, 20 will be assigned to the National Center for Mental Health in Mandaluyong City while the other 10 will be deployed to the Las Piñas General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center.

“True to our promise of sending at least 100 medical frontliners from the Visayas to augment the health care capacity of NCR+ hospitals, today we are sending-off yet again 30 nurses,” Dino said.

“Truly a selfless and heroic gesture when our country and our people need you.”
