The 48-year old police-lawyer was assigned to the PNP Legal Service and died on April 12 while the other fatality was a 47-year old lieutenant assigned to the Explosive and Ordnance Division who also died on the same day.

The lawyer, according to PNP data, tested positive for the coronavirus on March 12, and had been confined at a hospital in Pasig City due to serious effects of the virus.

The reported death of two police officials came with 235 new COVID-19 cases in the PNP, according to Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, commander of the PNP Administrative Support for COVID-19 Task Force (ASCOTF).

Currently, there are 2,391 active cases in the PNP.

The PNP has been at the frontline of the enforcement of the quarantine measures in the country since March 15 last year, their tasks include manning border control points to contain the unnecessary movement of people and enforcement of minimum health safety protocols in the community.

Since last year, the PNP has recorded a total of 17,637 COVID-19 cases.

But despite their risky task, the PN Health Service data revealed that only 6,768 of them were vaccinated.
