PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin De La Cruz said there is a high chance that the weather disturbance located 1,960 kilometers east of Mindanao may develop into a tropical cyclone.

“May possibility na pumasok ito ng ating area of responsibility by weekend (There is a possibility that it will enter our area of responsibility by weekend),” De La Cruz said.

“Malaki din ang potential nito, base sa ating latest forecast at analysis, na mag progress pa bilang isang bagyo (It also has great potential, based on our latest forecast and analysis, to progress further as a tropical cyclone),” she added.

The weather specialist said the LPA is still outside the area of responsibility and is moving slowly towards the country.

But she noted that the LPA’s trough would affect the eastern section of Mindanao, particularly in Caraga and Davao Region, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

Residents were warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the easterlies or warm and humid winds from the Pacific will prevail over most parts of the country.

The weather system may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
