Cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) infections among overseas Filipinos in the Middle East continue to increase as 17 new cases and 14 new fatalities were reported in the region, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday.
With the new figures coming in from the different foreign service posts worldwide, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos is now 17,099.
Of this total, 10,122 have recovered, 5,894 are undergoing treatment and a total of 1,083 died of coronavirus infections since the outbreak started in February last year.
The Middle East and Africa remain as the region with the most numbers in all categories, namely confirmed cases (9,546); under treatment (3,883); recoveries (4,963), and fatalities (700).
In a statement, the DFA expressed its commitment to continue monitoring the situation of overseas Filipinos and in promoting and protecting their welfare amid the pandemic.
