Pangasinan records 40 suicide cases during first quarter of the year

DAGUPAN CITY — The Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPO) has recorded 40 suicide cases in the first quarter of 2021.

This was revealed by Police Major Arthur Melchor, PPO public information officer, in an interview.

According to the recently-held virtual meeting of all police chiefs in the province, the youngest suicide case was recorded at ten years old from Anda town, while the oldest is at 71 years old from Mapandan.

Depression remains to be the top motive behind the cases, followed by family problems, financial, and work problems.

Last 2020, the PPO has recorded a total of 101 cases from January to December.

To combat the high suicide rates, local police chiefs were ordered to coordinate with local health officers and health units, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) personnel.

“Dapat makipagtulungan sa mga concerned agencies at offices upang maiwasan ang bilangnito,” said Melchor.
