It’s World Health Day!
While countries across the globe continue to grapple with the impacts of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the World Health Organization (WHO) underscored the greater need for leaders and governments to focus their attention to existing health inequities.
Celebrated every April 7 of each year, the World Health Day aims to “create awareness of a specific health theme to highlight a priority area of concern” for the WHO.
Since it inception at the First Health Assembly in 1948 and after taking effect in 1950, the annual celebration has been highlighting various important health issues.
For this year, the World Health Day celebration is anchored on the theme, “Building a fairer, healthier world.”
Across the globe, the 2021 World Health Day celebration is marked by various activities which highlight the importance of various aspects of global health.
In line with this year’s theme, authorities are also urged to “ensure that all people are able to access quality health services when and where they need them.”
