Davao City classified as COVID low-risk area

DAVAO CITY – From the minimum risk classification last week, Davao City has now been classified as low risk area for COVID-19 by the National Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

The low risk classification is based on two indicators – the low 2-Week Growth Rate (2WGR) and the Average Daily Attack Rate (ADAR).

“Last week, Davao City was classified as minimum risk, now it is at low risk. This is because we have a negative 8.74 two-week growth rate (2WGR) which is still low but our average daily attack rate (ADAR) reached one, from .92 last week,” said Dr. Ashley Lopez, acting head of the City Health Office (CHO) and focal person of the Davao City COVID-19 Task Force.

As of April 3, the Local Government Unit (LGU) Risk Assessment Map of Davao City showed that one barangay – Barangay Sirawan – is still under critical risk.

Lopez said that from two cases reported in the barangay last week, the number increased to nine in the past one to two weeks.

Four barangays – Barangays 7-A, 19-B, 20-B, and Tigatto – were classified as high risk.

On the other hand, 15 other barangays are classified as moderate risk, including Barangay 9-A, 16-B, 34-D, 35-D, 38-D, Bago Gallera, Bucana, Catalunan Grande, Catalunan Pequeño, Gov. Vicente Duterte (Agdao), Indangan, Langub, Lubogan (Toril), Manambulan (Tugbok), and Talomo Proper.

To keep the numbers low, Lopez said the CHO heightened its surveillance and response system.

“We have directed the barangay and district health offices to establish their surveillance units, including detection of symptomatic that are related to our influenza-like infections (ILI) and acute respiratory infections (ARI). They also do house-to-house surveillance,” he said.
