"Our greetings and prayers for our dear Archbishop-elect Cardinal Jose Advincula as he celebrates today his 69th birthday. May our Lord keep you safe as we wait for you here in Manila," the Manila Cathedral said in a Facebook post.

"We pray for the birthday anniversary Cardinal Jose Advincula," Monsignor Hernando Coronel, rector of Quiapo Church, said.

"Happiest Birthday, Your Eminence Jose F. Cardinal Advincula, archbishop-elect of the Archdiocese of Manila! May the Lord bestow you courage, knowledge and wisdom to continue to propagate His Words to mankind," the San Roque De Manila Parish said.

Pope Francis named Advincula as the 33rd Manila achbishop on March 25.

His appointment came almost four months after he was created cardinal along with 12 others on Nov. 28 last year.

Advincula replaced Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, who had been serving as Prefect of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples since February last year.

The Manila archdiocese has been vacant since then, but under the pastoral care of Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo as apostolic administrator.

With three million Catholics in 86 parishes, Manila is one of the country’s largest ecclesiastical jurisdiction, which covers nine suffragan dioceses.
