Commission on Appointments: 51 DFA diplomats confirmed


The powerful Commission on Appointments on Wednesday confirmed the appointments of 51 senior Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) officers led by five ambassadors.

This came after Senator Panfilo M. Lacson favorably recommended to the CA plenary session their confirmation following his CA foreign affairs committee hybrid meeting that determined their fitness to hold their posts during a hybrid public hearing.

The confirmation was made by Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III, concurrent CA chairman, during the Commission’s plenary session.

The five ambassadors confirmed were:

Generoso de Guzman Calonge as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Iraq with a rank as Chief of Mission, Class 1.

Maria Theresa Dizon-de Vega as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Korea with a rank as Chief of Mission Class 1;

Maria Lumen Banzon Isleta as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Sweden with a rank of Chief of Mission, Class 1;

Maria Elena Palo Algabre as Ambassador   Extradordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkey with concurrent jurisdiction over Georgia and Azerbaijan with a rank of Chief of Mission Class 2; and

Alan Lazaro Deniega as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Bangladesh with concurrent jurisdiction over Sri Lanka and    Maldives with a rank of Chief of Mission, Class 2.

The CA also confirmed the appointments of six Chiefs of Mission, Class 1; 10 Chiefs of Mission, Class 2; 10 Career Ministers and 25 foreign service officers (FSOs), Class 1.
