It is an understatement to say that Ricky Lee is a master of his craft. He wrote some of the most iconic films Filipino viewers have ever watched. To add to that, his novels also hold storytelling experiences one should never skip.
Now, if you’ve been reading his scriptwriting manual “Trip to Quiapo” nonstop and you’ve been dying to sit in one of his workshops, then you’re in luck as the famed screenwriter partners with Cinemalaya for two scriptwriting classes for film starting this April. And just like his past classes, these workshops are for free.
“Under the Cinemalaya Institute Training Programs, Ricky Lee will hold two online scriptwriting workshops: The three-hour Cinemalaya Scriptwriting Masterclass in April 2021, and the Cinemalaya Intensive Scriptwriting Workshop from May to June 2021. Both workshops are free of charge,” Cinemalaya posted on Facebook.
The two workshops will focus on different levels of storytelling. The first one, the Cinemalaya Scriptwriting Masterclass, will teach participants about the foundations of film scripts. The three-hour session will happen on April 4, 2021 at 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (GMT Philippine Standard Time), and is open to all Filipinos residing locally or abroad.
The other class, the Cinemalaya Intensive Scriptwriting Workshop, is a step-by-step workshop on the creation of compelling scripts told in one’s unique voice. It will consist of eight weekly sessions from May 26 to July 14, 2021, Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. After a selection process, only 30 participants/scholars will be attending the workshop. As a requirement, applicants should submit a one-to-two-page storyline and a writer’s intention for the material.
“The Cinemalaya Scriptwriting Workshops for Film is part of Cinemalaya’s new vision in the new normal as it redefines its direction and strategy while remaining significant and continuing to fulfill its mission of discovering, encouraging, supporting, training and recognizing gifted Filipino independent filmmakers,” Cinemalaya posted.
