Israeli company extracts potable water from the air

I bet, you may be laughing at the idea of harvesting potable (drinking) water from the air. But I kid you not, an Israeli company holds the patent to a technology that creates high-quality drinking water out of the air for people everywhere.

Established in 2009, Israel-based Watergen successfully launched its first atmospheric water generator in 2012. Using patented heat-exchange technology, the devices in their product line extract water from the air by using condensation as a means of producing fresh water.

A demo unit of a Watergen device that harvests drinking water from the air is now installed in Mandaue City, Cebu.

With the ever-growing problem of sourcing clean, safe, drinking water on a global scale, this company gives us a “plug-and-drink” technology to bring drinking water directly to the place of use – even in highly polluted areas.

This innovative technology gives remote rural communities, households, and even commercial office buildings access to unlimited, freely-available drinking water 24x7x365.

According to Watergen, their technology is set not only to give a significant impact on the lives of countless people and communities around the globe but also provides a solution that is both commercially available and affordable. It will also have a major economic impact on the water industry and will help solve drinking water stress in major global geographies.

I reached out to Watergen’s Vice-President for Government Relations & Business Development, Zach Fenster and the company’s Marketing Manager, Nurit Mor and they confirmed that there is a demo unit already installed in the Philippines, particularly in Mandaue City, Cebu. According to them, Watergen devices can start producing water from the air given minimum conditions of 20% humidity and 15˚C.
