The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) will set up beginning next week special tax booths in malls and other strategic areas nationwide to assist taxpayers in filing their 2020 income tax returns (ITRs).

April 15 is the last day for the filing of ITRs, as provided for by the Tax Code. Last year, the deadline was extended twice due to restrictions caused by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

BIR Deputy Commissioner for Operations Arnel SD. Guballa said in a memorandum that the tax filing centers must be well- ventilated and convenient to make sure that taxpayers are protected from the dreaded virus.

Guballa issued the instructions to regional directors, district officers, and the heads of the audit divisions of the Large Taxpayers Service.

He said revenuers manning the special tax centers should assist and answer queries from taxpayers submitting their ITRs manually.

Likewise, “elounge” cubicles will be made available to those required to use “eBIRForms” and other automated services in filing and paying taxes.
