Beauty queen-turned-actress Winwyn Marquez has said that she still looks up to her mom Alma Moreno as one of the best actresses in the country saying that she’s far better than her in the acting department.

While she has done both as protagonist and antagonist in her previous projects, Marquez said that her mom is still the better actress despite the fact she has rarely done kontrabida roles.

“Hindi mawawala ang pressure (na ikumpara ako to my parents) lalo na kay mama. Good thing I am open to them and I ask for their advice. Yung mama ko ginawa niya yung ‘Aswang,’ iba rin ang atake niya roon. Ipinagbubuntis niya ako noon. Magaling si mama mag-express lalo sa mata lang. Makita lang nila I have a different style. Nakakatulong din na maging kontrabida which my mom hindi siya gaanong nag kontrabida. Kung comparison naman, sa acting I try to get tips as I can from my mom lalo na sa mata. Siya pa rin ang mas magaling. I look up to her. Sa kanila ako natuto ng acting,” said Marquez during a Zoom press conference for the movie “Nelia” on Friday, March 19.

Attorney Mary Melanie H. Quiño, who wrote the screenplay of “Nelia,” believes that Winwyn will give justice to the role of a nurse who has multiple personalities.

“We are looking forward to the movie being released on various platforms here and abroad. While I was writing this one, naghahanap kami ng morena beauty na magaling umarte. Nahirapan kami maghanap ng morena at maganda. Si Winwyn lang talaga. Mostly kasu our actresses are tisay. Iilan na lang silang morena. Nakita ko naman na kaya niya i-portay ‘yung different personalities na hinahanap ng character based on previous acting niya. Kaya niya ang role,” Quiño said.

Quiño added: “Ang character niya rito is a nurse but at same time marami siyang personalities. It’s a challenge talaga for Winwyn. I know she will be able to give justification to this character. The story has so many twists. Hindi siya predictable.”

Winwyn, 28, has just wrapped-up shooting for the Kapuso romantic-comedy series “Owe My Love” when she was told that shooting for “Nelia” will begin in March.

“Tapos na ako mag-taoing sa ‘Owe My Love.’ One week pa lang ako sa Manila. I’m leaving agad for this shoot. But I have to let go of my character in ‘Owe My Love.’ Comedy ‘yun eh. Itong one week nag re-ready na ako to prepare for the character of ‘Nelia,’ ” she said.

Asked about her reaction when she read the script, Winwyn said: She’s very unpredictable. Antagonist ba siya? Protagonist ba? Very challenging sa akin ito na may konting horror and thriller. I just hope I give justice to the character. Ako ba talaga ang kukunin nilang actress? I was shocked. Noong binigay nila sa akin ito and when I read the last page sabi ko gusto ko ito pero hindi pa ako sure noon kung ako talaga ang kukunin nila. Never ko pa talaga ginawa ito.”

Winwyn said that she’s looking forward to working with the cast of the movie, especially multi-awarded actor Raymond Bagatsing.

“I worked with Kuya Raymond (Bagatsing) in ‘One True Love.’ Talagang focus siya sa character lagi. Pagdating sa set, character na siyang pumupunta. Gusto ko ganun ako. Sa ‘Nelia’ hindi puwedeng happy-go-lucky. This time I can learn from Kuya Raymond how to internalize. Kahit sa tent pa lang kami (naka-internalize na siya),” she said.

In response, Raymond said: “You have it within you. I’m flattered and honored. I think we learn from everyone, Kung maganda ang pasok ng synergy ng bawat isa sa cast, maganda yung film.”

Lloyd Samartino will play the role of general in the movie. “Siya ang may pakana ng twists and turns sa story. Mas gusto ko talaga ang maging character actor. For many years, matinee idol and pretty boy ang roles ko. Paulit ulit lang and as I got older nako-consider na ako sa ibang roles. I love kontrabida roles, any roles that are far from the ones I used to do. So this is exciting for me. First time to work with Raymond (Bagatsing).”

Shido Roxas will play the role of a doctor. “Excited ako sa movie. Yung mga twists sa plot is a good revelation kung paano tatakbo ang story. Any role for me is a challenge, I just have to give my best.”

Ali Forbes is a sexy nurse in the flick. “Exciting ang role na ito because first time ko itong gagawin. May gagawin ako na may kaabang-abang siya. May mystery ang character ng role ko rito.”

Vin Abrenica will also play a nurse in the movie. He said: “It’s so funny na nag-nursing ako in my college days. Hopefully, ma-apply ko sa movie na ito ang mga natutunan ko sa nursing noon.”

Produced by A and Q Productions Film, Inc., the film “Nelia” will be directed by Lester Dimaranan.
