In his Thursday presser, Roque, however, said it was still early to talk about politics, especially with the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Napakaaga pa para pag-usapan ang eleksyon at pulitika. ‘Yan naman po ang aming sinasabi palagi (It’s too early to talk about the election and politics. That’s what we have been saying),” he said.

“Isantabi muna ang politika habang nandito pa ang pandemya (Let’s set aside politics while the pandemic is still around),” he added.

Roque said while the Palace preferred to address the pandemic first before engaging in politics, they could do anything about the opposition.

“Hindi pa po panahon sa pulitika. Pero hindi natin po sila mapipigilan (It’s really not yet the time for politics. But we cannot stop them),” he said.

“I wish them the best. Good luck to Justice Carpio,” he added.

President Duterte himself has repeatedly appealed to the public to set aside politics and focus all attention on addressing the pandemic.

Aside from Carpio, supporters of the said pro-democracy coalition include former Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales and former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario, among others.

Following the launch, Carpio said 1Sambayan had already held initial discussions with possible candidates for president and vice president. These people include Vice President Leni Robredo, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Senator Nancy Binay, Senator Grace Poe, and former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
