BMW launches the new 4 Series Coupé

Elevating the driving experience

The perfect mix of luxury and sport has just arrived in the form of the all-new BMW 4 Series coupe. Built to deliver a richly engaging driving experience, the improvements have been made to further distinguish it from the 3 Series sedan.

Linking the past and future

Its design carries the hallmarks of BMW’s historic two-door models and the brand’s new design language. It is longer and wider than its predecessor while still offering a distinctly sportier stance than the typical 3 Series.

The most distinctive change it’s the larger, vertically emphasized BMW kidney grille, now angled forwards and extending down almost to the lower edge of the front apron. The taller grille, connected in the center, was conceived to call back to the brand’s legendary classics like the BMW 328 and BMW 3.0 Csi with a modern twist. It’s paired with slim headlights reaching well into the front wheel arches. Full-LED headlights are fitted as standard together with LED fog lights. The 420i M Sport adopts a more aggressive character thanks to a standard fitted M Aerodynamics package.

From the side, the 4 Series coupé boasts of short overhangs, slender pillars, long doors with frameless windows, a slim window graphic, and a flowing roofline. The two variants it is offered in, the 420i Model Advantage and the 420i M Sport, are best distinguished from this angle. The 420i Model Advantage gets BMW Individual Exteriuer Line Aluminum Satinated trim surrounding the windows, as well as 18-inch Light Alloy Wheels with runflat tires. The 420i M Sport comes with BMW Individual High-Gloss Shadowline trim to accentuate its sportier appeal, and is coupled nicely with 19-inch M Light Alloy Wheels with runflat tires.

At the rear, slim and stylishly darkened full-LED rear lights with consistently illuminating light bars underscore the car’s powerful looks.

A driver-focused cockpit

Inside, the 4 Series welcomes with cleanly designed surfaces, high-quality materials and a driver-focused cockpit layout. The center console has been set high to generata an enveloping environment for the front seat occupants. Standard acoustic glass for the windscreen further improves comfort over long distances. The front seats come standard with electric adjustment and memory function for the driver, and customizable ambient lighting adds that subtle dash of style.

Those that opt for the 420i Model Advantage will find sport seats in Sensatec leather upholstery and a newly designed multifunction sport leather steering wheel. The interior is lined with interior trim finishers in high-gloss black.

The 420i M Sport, by contrast, offers additional comforts like leather Vernasca upholstery, M Sport Seats with lumbar support, Sensatec material for the instrument panel, and a headliner in BMW Individual Anthracite. Additionally, an M leather steering wheel, interior trim finishers in Aluminum Tetragon, and M seat belts add the finishing touches.

The instrument cluster and control display in the all-new 4 Series coupé form a largesurface display grouping. The start/stop button for the engine is now positioned in the control panel in the center console. And the model- specific rear seats with integral head restraints and pronounced individual- seat character have been designed to accommodate two passengers.

The rear backrest in the all-new 4 Series Coupé has a 40:20:40 split as standard and its individual sections can be released and folded flat by pressing a button in the boot. The boot is able to hold 440 liters of gear, and a through-loading system can facilitate longer items.

Seamless convenience

When it comes to technology, the standard-fitted Live Cockpit Plus comprises the iDrive control/operation system with 8.8-inch control display and a touch controller, a black panel instrument cluster centered around a 5.1-inch color display, multimedia and navigation systems, and two USB ports.

The operating system of the infotainment system, now in version 7.0, can be configured individually. The various options and data points can be toggle through in four ways: via the control display’s touchscreen; the proven iDrive controller;  or the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel; or voice control. Apple CarPlay is now joined by Android Auto for easy smartphone use. Finally, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with added functions is also a standard feature.

Among the many conveniences it comes with is guidance when using BMW’s innovative Parking Assistant, allowing automatic assisted parking in spaces that are either parallel or perpendicular to the road. Park Distance Control also comes as standard, offering front and rear parking sensors, paired with a rear-view camera. Reversing Assistant also comes as standard, allowing the vehicle to remember the last 50 meters it has driven forward, allowing the system to take over reversing duties with memorized steering inputs while the driver applies the brake pedal.

A dynamic powertrain

Propelling the 4 Series coupé is a 2.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder in gasoline paired with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and Steptronic Sport in the M Sport variant. This offers 184 hp and 300 Nm of torque.

The all-new BMW 420i Model Advantage is priced at P3,990,000 while the BMW 420i M Sport variant is priced at P4,590,000. As with all new BMWs, the all-new 4 Series coupé comes with a five-year or 200,000-kilometer manufacturer’s warranty.
