COVID effect: Resident alien annual report submissions down 25 percent -- BI

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said that a total of 130,147 resident aliens have filed their annual report (AR) for 2021.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said the number of reportees was 25 percent lower compared to the 169,890 who submitted their ARs last year.

"This is not surprising as many of these foreign nationals were stranded abroad due to worldwide coronavirus disease (COVID-19) travel restrictions," the BI chief said.

However, Morente said those who failed to meet the deadline may submit their AR within 30 days upon arrival.

The immigration law requires resident aliens to file their AR within the first 60 days of the year.

Chinese nationals topped the list of filers, followed by Indians, Americans, Taiwanese and South Koreans.

The BI earlier threatened aliens who did not submit their report with cancellation of visa and deportation.
