Couple killed, 4 hurt in Kalinga road accident

PASIL, Kalinga – A couple was killed while four others were injured when the Kia Pregio private van they riding in plunged into a 500-meter deep ravine on the national highway in Sitio Limood, Barangay Balinciagao Sur here Friday.

Kalinga Provincial Police Office director Police Col. Davy Limmong identified the fatalities as couple Marilou and Daniel Minong while the injured were the van driver Edmar Baddongon, Jerry Baddongon, Mark Arel Lapitan, 21, and Jhonred Dawaron, all farmers from Barangay Balinciagao Norte here.

Police said the victims were bound for Lubuagan, this province when the brakes of their vehicle failed at 6:15 p.m.

Edmar lost control of the vehicle, swerved to the left shoulder of the road, and fell into a ravine before ending up in a river.

Dawaron and Lapitan were seated near the door and jumped off before the van plunged and suffered minor bruises. Edmar and Jerry sustained multiple injuries and were taken to the Lubuagan Hospital by responding rescue team.

However, the Minongs died on the spot.
