As the name of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is floated a year ahead of the 2022 presidential polls, Vice President Leni Robredo is wondering why Filipinos are drawn to the kind of leadership similar to that of President Duterte.
Robredo made the statement as the presidential daughter emerged as the top presidential candidate for the 2022 elections in different surveys.
In an interview with GMA News' "The Mangahas Interviews," Robredo said it was important to determine why Filipinos choose leadership styles similar to that of President Duterte.
"Kailangan natin yun seryosong pag-aralan (We need to seriously take a look at it)," she said in the interview aired Friday. "Bakit yung karamihan sa mga Pilipino, attracted sa ganitong klaseng pamumuno (Why are many Filipinos attracted to this type of leadership)?" she added.
According to the Vice President, it was important that one never disregards the result of these surveys.
"Kailangan natin tanggapin na bakit yung impression ng isang tao sa ganitong klaseng leadership, bakit kaya ganun yung naging preference (We need to find out why people prefer this type of leadership)," she said. Robredo said finding out the respondents' preferences would be helpful in determining the type of leader they want.
"Makakatulong sa pagbibigay ng ibang klaseng leadership na na tutugunan pa din yung kanilang mga saloobin (It would help in giving the kind of leadership that the people wants and would address their concerns)," she said.
Davao City Mayor Duterte had said she was not planning to run for president.
President Duterte even said he told her daughter not to pursue the presidency because of the low pay and the disrespect that come with the job.
