4-magnitude quake jolts parts of Davao del Sur – Phivolcs

A magnitude 4 earthquake rocked parts of Davao del Sur on Thursday night, March 4.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake occured at 10:36 p.m.

Its epicenter was plotted 4 kilometers (km) southeast of Magsaysay town in Davao del Sur.

State seismologists said the temblor was tectonic in origin, and had a depth of focus of 17 km.

Intensity III was felt in Magsaysay, while Intensity II was recorded in Kidapawan City and Bansalan town in Davao del Sur.

Instrumental intensities were also monitored in the following areas:

Intensity III – Kidapawan City

Intensity II – Koronadal City and Malungon, Sarangani

Intensity I – General Santos City and Alabel, Sarangani

Phivolcs said the quake was an aftershock of the magnitude 6.1 tremor that struck Magsaysay on Feb. 7.

No damage or aftershocks were expected following the quake, it added.
