The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) welcomed the 24 newly-graduates, composed of 23 lawyers and one priest, after successfully finishing the Coast Guard Officers’ Course (CGOC) on Tuesday, March 2.
The PCG said the CGOC Class 26 – 2020 “Charlie” comprised the “highest number of lawyers” who finished the course simultaneously.
During the graduation ceremony, Commandant Admiral George Ursabia Jr. underscored that having lawyers as Coast Guard officers “will ultimately transform the PCG into a more efficient and proactive maritime law enforcement body.”
“Our mandate is full of law enforcement activities that take numerous legal concerns. Needless to say, we need lawyers. Having 23 lawyers and one priest answers the challenges that we are currently facing. I hope and pray that all of you will stay with us for good. Help the Coast Guard. Help our country,” Ursabia said.
The newly graduates took oath and commenced the four-month-long training on Nov. 9, 2020.
