A mother and her daughter died after they drowned at sea in Barangay Tiglawigan, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, March 3.
Police identified the victims as Melanie Alo, 39, and her 11-year-old daughter. Based on a report from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOcPPO), Alo, her nephews and two children went swimming around 8 a.m. when the water level rose.
Alo was able to save her two nephews and one daughter, but failed to rescue her 11-year-old daughter, after both of them drifted into the sea.
Both victims were swept by the strong current of the water and drowned. The three survivors went home to ask help from their neighbors, but it was already too late.
The two victims were brought to Cadiz City Emergency Clinic, but were pronounced dead on arrival.
