Pampanga Archbishop Florentino G. Lavarias has tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Archdiocese of San Fernando in Pampanga announced on Sunday, Feb. 28.

In a circular letter, the archdiocese said the prelate remains in stable condition.

“The archbishop remains in stable condition. Let us all pray for his steady and speedy recovery,” read the letter.

The archdiocese said the people who have been in close contact with the archbishop have been duly informed about the matter.

This month, Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma and Cebu Auxiliary Bishop-Emeritus Antonio R. Rañola also tested positive for COVID-19.

On Feb. 22, the Archdiocese of Cebu said both prelates were already on the road to recovery according to their doctors.

One of its priests, Father Russel Sungcad, was also hospitalized for COVID-19.
