Fire razes 40 houses in Muntinlupa


A fire gutted 40 houses in Bgy. Cupang, Muntinlupa early morning Saturday, Feb. 27, that left about 200 people homeless.

According to Supt. Roberto Samillano Jr. of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Muntinlupa, the fire started at about 2:01 a.m. from the first floor of the house of Carmen Tanao in a residential area in Garcip Compound, Cupang.

It reached the second alarm at 2:23 a.m. before it was put out by firefighters at 4:44 a.m. The estimated damage to property was placed at P400,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

Muntinlupa Public Information chief Tez Navarro said the city’s Social Services Department will provide assistance to the affected families including providing them hot meals and temporary relocation area. 

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi and the city council are expected to provide other assistance to the families. Bgy. Captain Rainier Bulos and his kagawad provided the families initial help like hot meals, bread, water and face masks. 

In April 2016, a fire in Garcip Compound razed 1,000 houses and destroyed properties worth millions.
