NPA in ambuscade of 3 Army soldiers nabbed


BACOLOD CITY – The military and police arrested Wednesday a New People’s Army rebel who allegedly killed three members of the Army 94th Infantry Battalion (IB) in an ambush in Sitio Tugas, Barangay Carabalan, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental last year.

The suspect was identified as Dexter Almuete, 36, of Barangay Carabalan, who had warrant of arrest for three counts of homicide.

Almuete was tagged in the murder of three members of the Army  94th IB in an ambush in Barangay Cabarlan last April 19, 2020.

Killed in the ambush were 2nd Lt. Amante Abibico, Corporal Joel Nobleza, and Private First Class Carl Venice Bustamante.

Abibico is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy Class Alab Tala Class of 2018 from Bauko, Mountain Province.

Almuete is an alleged member of the Central Negros (CN)-2, SDG Platoon, according to the Army.

Following his arrest, intelligence operatives of the military assigned in the area were tasked to monitor the possible retaliation of the rebels.

The Civilian Active Auxiliary (CAA) was also alerted for possible harassment or retaliation from the enemies.
