The PCG, citing the report from the boat captain, said the fishermen encountered big waves that damaged the boat until it eventually capsized.

The fishermen were rescued by a transiting fishing boat that also contacted the Coast Guard for support.

The rescued fishermen were provided with food, water, and initial medical assistance before they were turned over to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) of General Santos City for further assistance on Thursday, Feb. 25.
