Miss Philippines Samantha Bernardo has landed in Thailand for the Miss Grand International 2020 beauty pageant and she's the first candidate to arrive!

Wearing a face mask and the Chut Thai, the traditional garment of Thailand created by Cyrus Gueta Couture, Bernardo waved the Philippine flaglet as she arrived at the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok.

"I've safely landed," said Bernardo on Facebook.

The beauty queen from Palawan City will also begin today, Feb, 24, the mandatory 14-day quarantine for candidates before she and the other girls kick-off pre-pageant activities.

Some 70 candidates from around the world are expected to compete in the 2020 Miss Grand International contest. The grand finals will be held on March 27, 2021.

Bernardo was personally handpicked by the Binibining Pilipinas organization to represent the Philippines in the competition. She is the first Filipino to compete in a live international pageant since the pandemic started in March 2020.

The Filipino beauty queen said that Thailand holds a special place in her heart.

“Today, as I travel to Bangkok, Thailand I know that I am not alone. This country dearly holds a special place in my heart. I have my whole country across my heart to support me and I know that you are guiding me, Papa. This one’s for you. We all miss you and love you. Happy birthday in heaven!” Bernardo wrote on Facebook.
