5.2-magnitude quake hits near Davao Occidental


The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded on Wednesday, Feb. 24 a 5.2-magnitude earthquake in Davao Occidental.

The moderately strong earthquake was reported around 6:25 a.m. 

Phivolcs said the tremor originated 318 kilometers southeast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental at a depth of 79 kilometers.

There was no recorded intensity, and damage and aftershocks are not expected.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means the tremor was caused by the movement of an active fault in the area.
