Robredo supporters probe fund raising options

Although she has not decided yet, supporters of Vice President Leni Robredo are now looking for ways on how to raise funds for her campaign should she run for president in the May 2022 polls.

A certain Twitter user has suggested a P10-fundraising campaign for Robredo’s possible presidential run next year.

Miyako Izabel, whose Twitter account is @sejoalzir, penned an open letter to Robredo a few days after the vice president said that she does not have the resources to go against other presidential bets in the upcoming elections.

“Dear VP Leni, kung nagdadalawang-isip ka dahil walang pondo, simulan na ang ‘Sampung Piso Para Kay Robredo.’ Hindi lang pondo, makikita mo rin kung may sapat kang nakaimbak na mga boto (Dear VP Leni, if you are having second thoughts because you do not have funds, let’s start the P10 for Robredo. This is not only for the fund, but you will also see if you have enough support from the voters),” she wrote.

As of posting, the tweet has more than 5,500 likes, 580 retweets, and 69 quote tweets.

The Twitter user, whose description said is a writer and independent publisher, political blogger, and social media activist, also plans to donate $400 from the proceeds of her “EJK book” on Amazon.

The book “Changing Shapes of Rain” by Miyako Izabel is on Amazon for $13.85 per copy. The description said it is a collection of poetry that “combines protest and sensuality and adds politics and despair to the mix.”

Robredo’s supporters have already launched an online signature campaign called “I am ready for Leni,” which has so far garnered 43,500 signatures as of this posting. This petition is urging her to run for president.

Those from Iloilo and Cebu provinces also shared their hope for the vice president  to run for the country’s top highest post.

Twitter users have been commenting on the post, with many saying “count me in” if there’s a fundraising initiative. Some even said they are willing to open their children’s coin bank for Robredo. And if the vice president eventually decides not to run for president, the users said the money can be donated to the poor instead.

Over the weekend, Robredo said that even if she is open to run for president, it will be hard for her because she does not have the resources.

“I do not have—our party is already decimated. There are a few of us left. It’s hard. Even if I want to run, it’s going to be difficult in the sense that there are many responsibilities and there’s a lot of things that I need to prepare for before that happens,” she said in Filipino over GMA News interview.

Still, the vice president stressed that anything is possible and that she will decide on her political plans before the filing of the certificate of candidacy in October this year.
