Filipino online karate sensation James de los Santos claimed two gold medals this weekend which increased his total medal haul to six less than a month after he started his campaign this year.
De los Santos won his fifth gold medal after beating American Alfredo Bustamante 24.9-24.6 in the Budva Winner #1 final e-kata individual male senior’s category as results were posted Saturday by Sportsdata – an online page recognized by the World Karate Federation (WKF).
The following day, the 30-year-old ruled the Athletes’ E-Tournament Series #1 following another win against Bustamante in the final round 25.5-24.34 that gave him his sixth gold medal.
“I’m happy with my wins, but I know there’s more room for improvement. I just have to continue working hard,” said de los Santos, a former national team member but has concentrated with online meets since last year.
De los Santos only started competing this year in late January.
While winning the first tournament is always crucial, he said everything will follow according to plan by training hard.
“The beginning will always be challenging. But if you continue to work hard, everything else will follow. The beginning will always be challenging, but if you continue to work hard, everything else will follow,” he said.
