LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – A 22-year-old construction worker was killed when a crane truck ran over his head while sleeping in Barangay Baay here last Saturday.

Officer-on-case Police Staff Sgt. Hercules B. Salinas Jr. identified the victim as Jimuel Florante, 22, of TJV Velasco Construction and Supply and resident of Dampigan, Sta. Rita, Samar.

Salinas said Florante was sleeping on a plywood when helper Jaime Fernandez, 27, of Barangay Dinalaoan, Calasiao, Pangasinan moved the crane truck to start working but failed to realize that his co-worker was sleeping under.

The victim’s head was crushed, killing him on the spot.

“Dapat after lunch pa ang work pero mukhang napaaga at pinaandar na ng suspek ang truck crane at ‘yun nasagasaan niya ang biktima at namatay noon din (Fernandez was supposed to start working after lunch. He started early and operated the crane truck but ran over the victim, killing him on the spot),” Salinas said.

Jimuel’s remains were taken by his brother and co-worker foreman Joey Florante, 28, also of Dampigan, Sta. Rita, to the Funeraria Escaño, Padilla St. West, Poblacion, this town, for autopsy.

The victim’s family has expressed willingness for an amicable settlement of the incident.
