Police identified the victim as Medelyn Benignos of Pontevedra, Negros Occidental and a resident of Barangay 2 here.

Police Lt. Andy Ofalia, deputy station commander of the Bacolod Police Station 2, said the victim, who owned a cellphone accessories store in a shopping mall here, flagged down a tricycle on her way home.

The tricycle driver decided to get the victim as a passenger as he was just waiting for his wife who was working in the mall.

Ofalia said the gunmen wearing helmets allegedly tailed the tricycle until they reached the South Capitol Road where the victim was shot twice at close range. He said the victim succumbed to two bullet wounds in the head and nape while the couple was unharmed.

Police recovered from the crime scene two fired cartridge cases and two slugs of .45 caliber pistol.

Ofalia said they are exploring different angles behind the killing – personal, love triangle, and business.

He said the victim has no record of any drug links based on their initial investigation. Ofalia said the victim had been living here for nine years.
