Panay girds for onslaught of ‘Auring’


ILOILO CITY – Panay Island is bracing for the impact of tropical storm “Auring” which is forecast to pass by Sunday or Monday.

The Office of Civil Defense Region 6 (OCD 6), which chairs the Western Visayas Regional Risk Reduction and Management Council (Western Visayas RDRRMC), is on red alert status as it oversees the regional command center here.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Iloilo, as well as Iloilo City, may feel the impact of Auring.
Governors Florencio Miraflores of Aklan, Rhodora Cadiao of Antique, Esteban Evan Contreras II of Capiz, and Arthur Defensor Jr. of Iloilo have convened their Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) in preparation for Auring.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas and Guimaras Gov. Samuel Gumarin have also convened disaster response teams in preparation for Auring.
The Western Visayas RDRRMC has released the latest list of barangays susceptible to landslides and flooding, which was drawn up by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB).
