Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo is temporarily working from home while undergoing quarantine after he was exposed to a fellow official with coronavirus illness.
In his commentary program Wednesday, Feb. 17, Panelo revealed that he opted to take such precaution after Presidential assistant for Visayas Michael Dino tested posited for the virus. The Palace official was also expected to take a coronavirus test to determine if he is also infected.
Panelo and Dino were among the government officials who attended the launch of a health facility in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte last Thursday.
“Tayo ay nasa quarantine sapagkat gaya ng kwento ko sa inyo kahapon tayo na-expose kay Secretary Michael Dino, ang ating Presidential adviser on affairs sa Visayas dahil noong nagpunta kami sa Laoag, siya pala ay mayroong driver na may COVID (We are under quarantine because like I said we were exposed to Secretary Michael Dino, our Presidential adviser on affairs in the Visayas because when we went to Laoag, he had a driver who had COVID),” Panelo said during his “Counterpoint” program recorded at home.
“Siguro noon hinatid siya sa airport, most likely baka unconsciously naghubad ng kanyang face mask o di nadapuan siya. Eh kaya since na-expose kami ni Senador Bong Go, kailangan mag-quarantine kami (Maybe when he was brought to the airport, he might unconsciously removed his face mask and got infected. Since Senator Bong Go and I have been exposed, we must undergo quarantine),” he said.
Dino recently announced that he tested positive for coronavirus after he came in contact with a person with the illness. He has urged those who came in close contact with him to get tested.
Panelo, a former spokesman of the President, hosts a daily commentary program from his office since the pandemic started last year. The one-day program is aired on state television and the government’s Facebook pages.
While recording his program Wednesday, Panelo was seen wearing a face mask. He explained he chose to wear the protective gear and observe other health protocols to protect himself and his family.
“Kaya tayo naka-face mask kahit nandito sa bahay dahil may mga kasama tayo sa bahay, lalong-lalo pa ang mga kasama ko laging nasa opsital.
Sapagakat sila ay mga doktor. Ang asawa ko ay doktor, ang anak ko ay doktor. Tapos mayroon pa akong driver),” We’re wearing a face mask at home because I’m living with other people especially since they work in the hospital. My wife and son are doctors. We also have a driver),” he said.
In the same program, Panelo renewed his appeal to the public to observe health measures, from mask-wearing to observing physical distancing from others.
To stay healthy and curb the chances of getting infected with COVID, he urged people to eat fruits and vegetables, drink vitamins, exercise regularly, and sleep eight hours a night.
“Huwag na masyado junk food (Avoid eating too much junk food),” Panelo said.
“Exercise pa rin ang the best. Sabi ni Dra. Panelo, walking okay na raw),” he added.
