No destructive tsunami threat after Vanuatu quake — Phivolcs

There is no threat of a tsunami hitting the Philippines after a strong 6.7-magnitude earthquake in Vanuatu Islands on Tuesday morning.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake occurred at 8:49 a.m. (Philippine time), and with a depth of 14 kilometers.

“No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data,” Phivolcs said in its advisory.

As such, “there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake,” it added.
