Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto underscored that 100 million people have been inoculated with COVID-19 vaccines in the world and yielded positive results with minimal side effects.
This as the mayor urged Pasig residents to get vaccinated despite uncontextualized reports on its negative effects on some people who got inoculated.
“ng mahalagang pag-usapan natin sa ngayon ay kung gaano ka-minimal ang mga side effects. ‘Yung mga balita na nakakatakot, puro wala sa konteksto (We should focus on the vaccine’s minimal side effects. The scary news about it have no context),” Sotto told the Manila Bulletin in a text message.
According to him, there are uncontextualized reports saying that some people inoculated with the COVID-19 vaccine died, without even noting that they have pre-existing illnesses before being administered the vaccine.
In case of any side effects of the vaccine, Sotto said the local government unit (LGU) of Pasig will help any resident experiencing such.
“Kung mayroon mang side effects, sagot na ng LGU ‘yon. Just like our Pasigueño COVID-19 patients in our COVID referral facility (Should there be any side effects, the LGU will take care of it),” he assured.
On February 14, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said their survey showed that only three out of 10 Metro Manila residents are willing to get inoculated with COVID-19 vaccine.
Pasig LGU is targeting to inoculate over 5,000 individuals daily once the nationwide rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine begins.
The city government said it will prioritize vaccination of frontline health workers, senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), indigent residents, and other frontline personnel.
Public schools, hospitals, and the Tanghalang Pasigueño will be utilized as vaccination sites.
Each vaccination site, according to the City Health Officer, will be manned by more than 70 personnel that included medical and support staff.
In January, Sotto announced that Pasig LGU has allocated P300 million for the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines.
