Caloocan City Mayor Oca Malapitan will come up with a measure to alleviate the situation of meat retailers in his city, particularly those affected by the price cap on meat products, through waiving their rental fees.

According to the local government, Malapitan made the decision after he and other national government officials visited the Maypajo Public Market on Monday morning to check on the situation of market vendors.

In response to the vendors’ clamor, Malapitan said he will issue “this week” an ordinance to temporarily suspend the collection of rental fees of meat retailers in Maypajo and Langaray Public Market.

This will take effect until June 31, 2021, he added.

“I’m aware that market vendors are greatly affected by the price cap and by the pandemic. That’s why I assure them that we will support them,” Malapitan said in a statement.
