Artificial coral reefs installed to strengthen marine ecosystem in Surigao del Norte


The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has installed artificial coral reefs to strengthen the marine ecosystem in Surigao del Norte.

The PCG personnel of district Northeastern Mindanao installed the artificial coral reefs at the vicinity waters off Barangay Mabua, Surigao City, Surigao del Norte on Wednesday, Feb. 10.

The Coast Guard said the initiative is part of the city’s fisheries development program that aims to improve the marine ecosystem.

The PCG Auxiliary 1004th Squadron, Philippine National Police (PNP) - Regional Maritime Unit 13, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 13, and the local government unit also supported the artificial coral reefs installation.
