A magnitude 4.8 earthquake hit off the coast of Sarangani on Valentine’s Day, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Sunday. Feb. 14.
State seismologists said the quake occurred at 8:37 a.m. and its epicenter was plotted 229 kilometers southeast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
The temblor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 59 kilometers.
Phivolcs however did not provide intensity data for the tremor, as it is most likely unfelt by people.
No damage or aftershocks are to be expected following the quake, it added.
