Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said he is hopeful that the city will recover and become more prosperous after enduring the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
In his message for the Lunar New Year, Domagoso called on the Filipino-Chinese community living in the capital city to help the local government in its fight against the pandemic.
“My wish for the Filipino-Chinese community is that you all stay healthy and safe. Yes, businesses may have lost money because of the pandemic, but that money can be earned back,” he said on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
“I believe we can bounce back. I think health is the precious commodity. Health is wealth,” he added.
The Manila mayor also called on all residents of the city to unite in the battle against the pandemic.
"Now, let's work hand-in-hand. The community must work with the LGU (local government unit) and the national government. Let us not forget that our enemy is the coronavirus,” he said.
Domagoso attended the ceremonial eye dotting and ringing of gong for the Lunar New Year at Lucky Chinatown Mall in Binondo, Manila on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
On Jan. 28, he signed an Executive Order, banning outdoor activities in line with the celebration of Lunar New Year on Feb. 11 and 12 as the threat of COVID-19 persists.
These activities include dragon dance shows, street parties, stage shows, parades, and other similar activities.
