Consider donating blood first before you get yourself immunized against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

This was the appeal made by National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) to the public in a bid to ensure that it has adequate blood supply.

“Please consider that when you have your vaccine soon, the blood bank donor deferral will be at least 14 days for each vaccination. If you are vaccinated twice, that is at least one month deferral,” it said in a Facebook post.

The Quezon City-based medical institution expressed concern that due to this “deferral”, their “donation pool will be affected.”

“We encourage you and your family and friends to consider donating blood first before you get yourself vaccinated to ensure blood supply,” the NKTI said.
