Fil-Australian Lizette Cabrera bowed out of the 2021 Australian Open Monday with a first-round defeat to second seed Simona Halep of Romania.

Cabrera, 23, yielded to the former world No. 1, 6-2, 6-1, in an attempt to make it to the second round for the first time.

The Townsville, Australia native gave everything she could in the 59-minute play, but Halep was too much to handle.

Cabrera briefly breathed life in the second set after breaking Halep’s serve in the sixth game, but it proved to be her last stand.

It also didn’t help that she struggled with 28 unforced errors.

This was Cabrera’s fourth Australian Open appearance, earning a berth this year through a wildcard.

She turned pro in 2016 and is currently ranked No. 140.

Born to Filipino parents from Pampanga and Basilan, Cabrera hopes to make some noise in future tournaments.
