4.9 Magnitude quake jolts Occidental Mindoro

Another earthquake struck parts of southern Luzon and Visayas on Friday morning, Feb. 5. 

A 4.9 magnitude tremor was recorded 60 kilometers southwest of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro at 7:49 a.m., said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The quake was tectonic in origin with a depth of 14 kilometers.

Instrumental Intensity 3 was felt in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro and Roxas City, while Instrumental Intensity 1 was recorded in San Jose de Buenavista and Sebaste in Antique.

No aftershocks or damages to be expected following the quake, Phivolcs said.

State seismologists recorded a 5.1-magnitude temblor 24 kilometers northeast off of Tinaga Island in Camarines Norte at 6 a.m.

Phivolcs initially measured the earthquake at 5.4 magnitude.

Intensity 4 was felt in Capalonga, Camarines Norte, Intensity 2 in Goa and Naga City, Camarines Sur; and Calauag, Quezon Province; and Intensity 1 in Cainta, Rizal.
