Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said the Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases will soon discuss if they should allow members of the same household to ride their personal vehicle even without their face masks on.

Nograles made the statement following confusion about the protocol on wearing a mask while inside a car.

In his Thursday presser, Nograles, who chairs the IATF, said the panel will be discussing the matter soon.

“Ito iyong pag-uusapan namin sa IATF (This is what we will talk about in the IATF) because, of course, there’s a question about how do you enforce that,” he said.

“Abangan na lang po natin siguro kung ano iyong magiging issuance ng IATF tungkol po diyan (Let’s just wait for the policy that the IATF will come up with),” he added.

Nograles explained that some of the considerations before allowing people living under one roof to ride a car without face masks is the enforcement.

“There’s a question about how do you enforce that. Baka kapag magkasitahan, sasabihin na lang, magpapalusot na ‘Hindi, kasama ko lahat ng mga ito sa bahay.’ (Because if a driver is flagged down, he might just give an excuse that his passengers are living with him),” he said.

“So it’s really a question of enforcement and doability,” he added.

On Wednesday, February 3, Nograles clarified that a driver does not need to wear a face mask inside a car if he has no passenger.
