Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has issued a warning against “fixers” that the local government will run after them and send them to jail should they continue their activities.

This came after the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrested on Sunday for robbery-extortion, grave threats, and usurpation of authority nine individuals, including a man who “bragged that he can facilitate any government contract, particularly in Quezon City, without the usual bidding process” because they are “all employees of the Quezon City government.”

The individuals even asked for P5.3 million from the victim in exchange for a government contract involving an infrastructure project, police said.

“Sa mga fixer at iba pang gumagawa ng ilegal sa ating lungsod, mabuti pang magbalot-balot na kayo dahil may kalalagyan kayo sa aming lungsod (To fixers and other individuals doing illegal activities in the city, it’s better that you pack your belongings and leave because you will be held accountable when we catch you),” Belmonte said, “Sa tulong ng Quezon City Police District, liliit lang ang inyong mundo at siguradong babagsak kayo sa kulungan (With the help of QCPD, we will assure you will land in jail).”

“This should serve as a warning that Quezon City is serious in addressing criminality within our jurisdiction,” she added.

Belmonte also called on the public, especially businessmen, to avoid dealing with fixers as the local government already “hastened the processing of permits, licenses, and other documents needed for business and other transactions.”
